Financially Fit Friday

"When real faith grips you, you develop a mind-set that looks for the best in everything, refuses to give up, finds a way around or through every obstacle, and presses on to victory."
- Norman Vincent Peale

Have you started a money makeover? What are you planning on paying CASH for? What bill are you paying off? Share a bit of your story! No story is too small to share! Real life stories keep Sister C motivated :D Catch up on Our Story to see how far we've come.

Emergency Fund - $1000 - STOCKED!

Tuition Payment - $1000 due on 1/25/2011
  • Currently Saved $100 - 10% of our goal
    • Whoa, this is quickly approaching.  I forgot about it, crap. lol
Fun Money - Not sure what to save up for. I'm toying with the idea of visiting my sister in Maine in June...
  • Deposited $0 in fun money.
  • Current Balance $117.72
    • This account pays for my membership at Curves, for my ladies night out, and gifts for birthdays and Christmas. So I need to start saving for Christmas! Oh wait, I'm excellent at finding sales/deals, so I don't need much lol
House Fund - Goal $15,000.00 by 5/31/2011
  • Took out the balance to pay off two loans this week :D  So, we'll be starting over.
  • Currently Saved $77.19
    • In the next few weeks I plan to research out where to put our money to get the highest interest rate. I know it might not be much, but every little bit helps :D
    • I also plan to call around to different banks and find out mortgage rates, down payment requirements for different purchases - such as 'regular' house buying mortgages, foreclosures, short sales, contract for deed, etc. Then we'll know what we are up against :D
Likes | Tumblr
The following are the other loans we currently have, but will put them on the back burner as we save for a house bigger than a 2-bedroom for our family of SIX :D We plan on keeping the duplex we currently own, and renting out the side we currently live in, thus earning more money each month that will pay these off for us :D

Hubby's Student Loan as of 10/01/2011 $9395
  • Outstanding Balance is $9,240.20
My Student Loan as of 10/01/2011 $6480
  • Outstanding Balance is $6,366.18
Bank of America loan as of 10/01/2011 - $2228.49
  • Outstanding Balance is $0 ZERO :D
    • We decided to just pay this loan off regardless of how little interest we were paying on it.  Hubby R was highly blessed with his commissions this month, along with a Christmas bonus.  I cannot tell you how happy I am :D  We were highly blessed this year financially.  We depleted our house fund to get rid of this completely, giving us nearly $200/mo back 'in our pockets' - aka our house fund.  By the time we're set to buy a home, the balance we took out to pay this off will have been replaced and then some.  So as much as I wanted to keep that house fund stocked, I believe this is a better route to go.
Family Loan $3000 - Will be paid back with tax return

Family Loan $1000 - Will be paid back with tax return - We repaid this loan back two months sooner than expected :D

Sunday Coupon Preview - No inserts this week

How many papers do you buy each week?  Is it the same number or does it vary based on what coupons you've heard might be in the ads?  If you want to know what to expect in the Sunday coupon inserts, don't forget to check www.sundaycouponpreview.com. They will tell you not only what coupon inserts to expect in your weekly paper, but which coupons you will find in each insert.

This week there are no coupon inserts due to the holiday, but be ready next week - they should be good!

Financially Fit Friday

This week was very hectic for us.  So I'll continue the Financially Fit Friday series next week.  We made a few decisions to change things up a bit than planned.  So stop back next week and see what we did :D  Next week also begins saving up for next Christmas - have you thougth about that already so that next year you won't be scrambling to find money for gifts, or paying too much for gifts?

Merry Christmas, Friends - I hope you are blessed this year with love, happiness and financial peace.

Menu Plan Monday - Lunchbox Edition

This week, my kids only have 2 1/2 days of school and I decided to let them eat hot lunch both days.  It seemed a little simpler and saved me a trip to the grocery store.  Menu Plan Monday -  Lunchbox Edition will be back when the kids head back to school, the week of January 3rd.  I'll be adding some "at home" lunch ideas to next week's Menu Plan since we will all be home on vacation from work and school.  If you have young kids, enjoy your break from packing the lunchbox and I'll see you here in two weeks.

Menu Plan Monday

I can't believe it is less than a week until Christmas!  We'll be eating simply this week, including a few items from the freezer while we finish getting ready for holiday travel this weekend.  Here's what I'm planning:

Monday:  Tuna Burgers, Peas, Alfredo Noodles
Tuesday:  Roast Beef, Baked Potatoes, Carrots
Wednesday:  Chili (from the freezer) Corn Bread
Thursday:  Potato Soup, Breadsticks, Broccoli
Friday:  Chip Hotdish (aka Taco Hotdish / from the freezer), Corn
Saturday:  Dinner with Family for Christmas, we are bringing slushies and snacks

In 2012 I Resolve to Have "Peace Within".......

Do you make New Year's Resolutions?  I used to, but last year I did something a little different that I found to be more encouraging and less frustrating for me.  Last Fall / Winter someone forwarded me one of those "send this to 10 people or a piano will fall on your head" types of e-mails.  While I seldom even read these through, I did read this one and forwarded it on to several people, with the "do it or else" message on the bottom edited out.  It really spoke to me and I printed it out so I could look at it when I was feeling bogged down by the chaos in my life at the time. Here's what it said:

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be confident knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Saint Theresa

I love the message and it has made a positive impact on my life over the past year.  When I read it I was in an unhappy stage in life, and it gave me the little piece of hope and encouragement that I needed to start making positive changes in my life.

Instead of making one resolution I was doomed to fail at last year, I sat down and just wrote out all the things I was wishing I could do - all the things that I felt would make me happy (some realistic, others not) and committed to start chipping away at them even if it took years.  Over the course of the past year I have looked at that list quite a few times.   In fact, I just looked at it again now and I realized I've done quite a few things on the list and I AM happier now that I was a year ago.  My life is certainly not perfect and, in fact, is in the midst of some significant changes.  But I feel more hopeful and truly happy this year than I have for a long time.

So what was on my list?  Some of it is personal and will remain that way, but I can give you a few examples of things I consider accomplished or at least in progress:  play more games with my kids (in progress), use coupons (accomplished!), journal more (in progress), paint the family room (accomplished!), paint the entry (accomplished!), eat healthier foods (accomplished!), pack cold lunches (accomplished!). There were quite a few more things either in progress or accomplished and many more that did not get done.  But I don't feel like I failed this time because the list isn't static.

In the next week or two, I'll revise the list for 2012.  Some of the things on last year's list no longer apply because I am not in the same mental place I was last year and my circumstances have changed.  This year I'd like to add a few "family goals" to my list and am planning to chose those goals with my family.  One of those will be to make regular donations to our local food shelf.  I don't know what the rest of the list will look like, but I do know that it will be a list of things I want to do, not just something I feel obligated to do because it's a New Year.  I also know they will be goals that will help me work toward simplifying my life so I can slow down enough to enjoy it.

What about you?  Are you making resolutions?  Setting goals?  Please share here if you feel comfortable so that others can encourage and support you.   Here's to a simpler, happier 2012!!!
