Wednesday WOW

Because I am often a kitchen disaster waiting to happen, I thought I'd share two kitchen tips I came across while taking a study break on Pinterest.  The first is one I should have tried tonight when I was making noodles and boiled the water over - AGAIN!  (I watched that pot like a hawk and as soon as I turned away it spilled all over the stove.  Thank goodness I have flat top electric range.)  According to the author of the tip, putting a wooden spoon across the top of the pot will prevent boiling water from spilling over.  I'm not 100% sure I buy this, but I think I owe it to my stove to give it a try!  Let us know if you try it and it works - or not.
The second is a kitchen cleaning tip that I need to try on a baking sheet.  Not sure how I'm going to adapt it yet for that, but it looked promising so I bookmarked it just in case.  It's a step by step method for cleaning burnt pans without harsh chemicals and with great results:1. Fill the bottom of the pan with a layer of water, about 1 cup.  2. Add 1 cup vinegar.  3. Bring the pan to the boil. It should be looking a bit cleaner already.  4. Remove the pan from the heat and add 2 tablespoons baking soda. Expect fizz!  5. Empty the pan and scour as normal, if necessary add an extra bit of dry baking soda.  6. If there are any super stubborn marks that don't come off with scouring, make a paste of baking soda and a couple of drops of water. Leave the paste on the marks for a while and return to clean as normal.  7. Tad-ah! Now you can put your feet up and enjoy the many hours you saved yourself standing over the sink.

Wednesday WOW - Storing Christmas Ornaments

I'm sure many of you have already packed the tree and all it's trimmings back up - ours went back into storage over the past weekend.  But, for those of you who are still enjoying the holiday decorations or who were frustrated by how to get it all put away without breaking anything, this one is for you.......

christmas decorations storageIf your ornaments fit, you can use cardboard egg cartons to store them.  The carton is designed to protect eggs, so it should do a great job with your ornaments too.  The cartons also stack nicely inside a larger container or on a shelf.  If you start saving now, you should have enough cartons to pack all your ornaments long before next Christmas rolls around and you'll be re-using something that might otherwise end up in a landfill.

If your ornaments don't fit into egg cartons and you want to invest a few dollars in an alternative storage solution, try this clever idea from Design a la Mod and create you own ornament storage container.  I like this one the best.  I may look for some clearance cups between now and next December so I can make this once we unpack the tree again.

Your turn - do you have a clever or "WOW" idea to share on how to store Christmas decorations?  We love feedback!!!

Introducing the Wednesday "WOW"

Good Morning!

This morning I'd like to welcome the new year by introducing the "Wednesday WOW," as in "Wow, why didn't I think of that?"  Each Wednesday I'll put up an idea or two that I think is a great idea or time saver.  Some might be new to you, and some of you might have even better ideas.  If you do, I hope you will share them.  You can either comment below or send me an e-mail.

The inspiration for this weekly feature came from my mom, who sent me a list of neat tips that she thought I would enjoy.  She was right, and I wanted to share them with you, my cyber friends.  I hope you enjoy them and find at least a few over the course of the next few weeks that you are able to use or find helpful.

Happy New Year!!
