Physically Fit Friday

Ok, it's weigh in time.  I lost 2 pounds :D  No pics this week, I've decided to take them for you the first Friday of the month.  So I'll take one next week.

I have to be honest.  I haven't been digging working out the last couple of days.  But I made myself go, even if it was just for 20 minutes.  Normally my routine, including stretching, takes over 35.  And I need to remember to bring a water bottle.  Nothing makes me not want to work out like being thirsty does.

Who else has started to change their physical self?  I'd love to hear your story - why you started, how you've changed your meals, when you get your workouts in, etc.

Financially Fit Friday

Have you started a money makeover? What are you planning on paying CASH for? What bill are you paying off? Share a bit of your story! No story is too small to share! Real life stories keep Sister C motivated :D

Emergency Fund - $600.91
  • We found out last week that our temporary health insurance ends this week.  I thought we had it for a few more months.  I tell ya, my brain is on overload recently, it doesn't surprise me that I didn't have that written down somewhere.  So I took out roughly $400 to help pay for our new "insurance."  I have that in quotations and will explain that at a later date.  I cannot begin to tell you how important having just a $1000 put aside that I'm unable to have access to with a debit card or check.  It makes you think twice before spending it.  We haven't had to touch it since I think February when Dad passed away.  I'm so thankful we have only had to touch it this one time since then, and I pray we don't have to touch it again for quite some time.
Best Buy Credit Card - IS NOW PAID IN FULL lol  I have the slip that says the balance, and I paid that yesterday.  :D

Credit Card Beginning Balance 4/29/11 - $6031.08

  • Deposited $2.91 in spare change
  • Deposited $2.89 from Keebler Cookies rebate
  • Deposited $3.50 from Diamond rebate
  • Deposited $584 from leftover tips and paychecks
  • Deposited $50 from winning a work contest
  • Current Balance - $2690.99
    • Goal is to have this loan paid off before Halloween - October 31, 2011!
      • We may have to push this back to Thanksgiving time, as we ended up paying off the other credit card after starting to pay this one off, but I'm not willing to change the date quite yet. I'm still pursuing this date!
Make sure to come back next week and read up on how the Z Family began this whole journey three years ago, for the second  and last time.  I will bear all - in hopes that our story will inspire you to become debt free.  I'll post everything - the balances we began with, and to put it into perspective, I'll share roughly what our income was at that time in order to show you that no matter how much or little you make, you can also begin your journey to a better life!

Super Points

One way Sister C earns gift cards to help pay for Christmas is by playing Super Points.  It's super easy, and kind of boring, so I either click the Lucky Button while I'm watching TV, or have my kids play for me lol

You can only get an account with Super Points if you are referred, so below are some of my referral links.  If you are a member of Super Points, feel free to add your referral links in the comments.  Those of you that are new to Super Points can pick who you want to be referred by :D  When you win Super Points, so does the person who referred you if you are at least a Gold Member - which is very easy to attain.  Make sure to update your profile so you reach the Basic Level and you'll earn more clicks for the Lucky Button.

This link is worth a bonus 50 Points and is only good for the first person to click on it and register.

The following I think you get a bonus 25 points, at least that's what I remember them being.  But I could be wrong.  Maybe I just get a bonus 25 points if you use them.  I don't know.  Use at your own risk lol  jk.

Hy-Vee Ad 9/28-10/4

Thanks, Kansas City Mamas, for putting together this week's coupon/ad matchups.

I'm liking the really cheap salads this week.  :D  What will be in your cart?

Remember, check out our Shopping Tips and Tricks - Hy-Vee post!

I Wonder.........

I wonder - Where do I find coupons?

One main source of coupons is the Sunday paper.  Most major Sunday papers have coupon inserts.  In my area, I buy the local paper so I can read the news, plus 2 copies of another major newspaper for the coupons.

If you don't get the papers on Sunday, however, there are other ways to get coupons.

One way is from the major coupon sites that offer printables, such as www.coupons.com, www.redplum.com, and www.smartsource.com.  You can also check for coupons for specific items on many sites that offer a coupon database.  A number of products will also have Facebook pages or websites that offer coupons from time to time.  I generally make my weekly list and then check out a database for any coupons I don't already have.

Another way is to pick up coupons while you shop.  Keep your eyes open in the stores and look for peelies or blinkies, coupons that are on store shelves on tear pads or in little blinking dispensers.  Some products also have peel off coupons right on them.

Finally, if you know anyone who gets the paper, ask them if they use their coupons.  I sometimes get coupons from family and friends simply because I've told them I use them.

I'd love to hear from you too - Where do you find your coupons?

Transformation Tuesday

This week begins a new challenge.  While I am still trying to watch what I eat and count calories, this week I need to begin exercising.  It makes me tired just to write the word, but I know it needs to be done if I want to continue to make progress.  So, I will set small goals and build up a little each week.  This week my goal will be to walk for 20 minutes per day, or the equivalent, for a total of 140 minutes this week.  It sounds easy, but I have a feeling it will be harder than I think.  Does anyone want to take a virtual walk with me?

Not sure what to cook? Head on over to your Mankato Applebee's for $5 burgers, wings and pitchers of beer! No where near Mankato, head on over HERE to get the number to the Applebee's nearest to you, and give them a call to see what their specials are tonight.

Menu Plan Monday

It's a busy week at our house with school and sports activities.  The only night we have nothing planned yet is Saturday.  These are the weeks that are most challenging for me, even with a menu plan.  The drive thru is just so much easier, but so much more expensive and not at all good for us.  How do you handle those busy weeks were you feel like you are running every night?  I'd love to hear your suggestions in the comments below.  Thanks for sharing!

Monday:  Salmon, Rice, Green Beans

Tuesday:  On the road for a volleyball match - planning to pack cold "lunch" for supper

Wednesday:  Tortilla Egg Roll-ups, Fruit

Thursday:  Squash Soup, Grilled Cheese, Salad

Friday:  Pizza Ranch after soccer with friends - anyone know where I can find a coupon?

Saturday:  Chip Hotdish (aka Taco Casserole), Corn

Sunday:  Round Steak & Mushroom Gravy, Noodles, Vegetable

You'll notice I don't put Saturday on my menu and I only have one meal a day planned.  My kids are old enough to get their own breakfast and I keep plenty of cereal or bagels or waffles on hand.  We are all at work or school during the day Monday - Friday.  We also tend to eat whatever is in the frig for Saturday meals and Sunday lunches.  Occasionally I'll come up with something, but it's not usually planned.  Right now, this is working for us.

What's on your menu this week?

Money Makeover Monday

It's Week 2 of  "Financial Peace University."

We got our kit this week, and Scott has already converted all the CD's to MP3 format so we can listen to them on our iPod.  I need to go and copy all the notes I took on the copied handouts into the workbook we got so nothing gets lost.

Last week, our first assignment was to create a "Quickie Budget."  We sat down together to do this and I was  surprised and concerned to find out that we have several hundred dollars each month that are not accounted for.  Several hundred!!  On a positive note, we are saving money while meeting our budget and we have a plan to pay off all the debt we have (minus the mortgage) by summer 2012.  Our first debt is a car loan and we have a goal of March 2012 to get rid of that.

This week our homework is easy.  Start collecting credit card offers.  It sounds crazy, but I can see the point. We are supposed to keep track of how much potential debt we've avoided by not accepting any new credit card offers.  We are also supposed to find an "accountability partner,"  someone to help us when we need help to decide whether or not to spend unnecessary money.  Scott and I are fairly good at this, but I think I need to find a 2nd person for me.  (Sometimes, he gives in to me when he shouldn't so I won't get mad.)

Anyone want to volunteer to tell me "No!" next time I try to justify spending money we don't have?

Physically Fit Friday

Oops, this never got posted on Friday...

Well, it's been two weeks since I started working out.  I'm the type of person that starts working out again slowly.  I really HATE being so sore I can't move.  So for the last two weeks, I took it "easy" getting back into exercising at Curves.  And I'm so glad I did.  Yesterday was the first day I really pushed myself, and even though I felt like I just wanted to quit and go home and tackle my HUGE to-do list, I kept going, at a great pace.  And it feels so good once I'm done!  I haven't lost any weight yet, but I'm joining a Biggest Loser contest today and I'll get weighed, measured and have a body fat test done every Thursday.  I love the weekly stats as that should motivate me more than the typical once a month I would have normally done there.

There are no pics for the week, I plan on doing that only on the first Friday of every month.  So you'll have to wait a bit to see me looking fabulous :D

Have you started getting back into shape?  I'd love to hear how you are doing :D

Cub Foods Match-up 9/27 - 10/4/2011

Do you have a Cub Foods?  One of the nice things about Cub for those of us who love coupons is that they allow stacking of store and manufacturer coupons.  They also accept expired coupons for up to 90 days after the printed date on the coupon.  This week's ad match-up is from Definitely Deals, another Minnesota based blog.   It looks like there are some good deals this week, including cheap GM cereal and snacks, and granola bars.

CVS Match Up for 9/25 - 10/1/2011

CVS is one of my favorite stores for personal care and paper product deals.  If you are new to CVS shopping, make sure you sign up for the Extra Care Card so you can take advantage of the Extra Care Bucks offers each week.  Once you get started, this is one of the easiest ways I have found to get things for free.  This week's ad match up comes to us via Pocket Your Dollars.  It looks like I'll be picking up some hand soap and contact lens solution, and maybe a few other things once I check the coupon binder.

Please leave a comment and let us know if you find anything great this week or if you get any good coupons from the magic coupon machine.  Also, check back during the week to see what unexpected deals others are finding and to see money saving scenarios you may be able to use.

Back to the Basics

Each week on Sundays we'll add this post to the list for you to check for the lowest prices in Mankato on the basic essentials - milk, bread, eggs, cheese, veggies and meat. We can all refer to this page during the week when we run out of something to check where we should head to :D

Family Freebie

Looking for something free, fun AND educational for your whole family?  Stop in to your local Petco on October 1-2, 2011 between 1-2 pm for "Meet the Critters."  According to their website, Meet the Critters is "a free monthly educational event that allows guests of all ages to enjoy hands-on activities while learning about a variety of unique and interesting pets from reptiles to rabbits."  In October, they will be featuring the Guinea Pig.  Look HERE to find the Petco nearest you.   Thanks to The Frugal Girls for the heads up!

Emergency Fund - Stocked

Credit Card Beginning Balance 4/29/11 - $6031.08

  • Deposited $3.17 in spare change
  • Deposited $8.60 from selling some kids clothes to Once Upon a Child
  • Current Balance - $3334.29
    • Goal is to have this loan paid off before Halloween - October 31, 2011!
      • We may have to push this back to Thanksgiving time, as we ended up paying off the other credit card after starting to pay this one off, but I'm not willing to change the date quite yet. I'm still pursuing this date!
Ok.  I have a confession.  I can't subtract.  A few weeks ago I said I paid off the Best Buy card in full.  I messed up, and I still owe $76.  How this happened, I don't know.  I kept my receipts and yep, I just subtracted way wrong lol

Thrifty Thursday

In my town, we are blessed to have an abundance of Thrift stores.  One of my favorite stores to shop at is the Salvation Army Thrift Store.  I like the way it's organized and it's always clean when I go there.  If you are in the Mankato area, stop in a check it out.  On top of their regular great deals, they have half price sales every Monday and Friday from 5-8 pm and Seniors get a 25% discount on Tuesdays.

I Wonder.........

I wonder......  Is it cheaper to use coupons or buy generic?

This question appeared on the Facebook page earlier this week and got me thinking.  When my oldest cherub was a baby and toddler, I used to use coupons.  But I was spending more by trying to use the coupons than I was saving so I decided that it would  be much easier, and cheaper, to just buy generic.  It's all the same, right?  For us, it did save money for a while.  But as our family grew so did the grocery bill - even with all the generics.

Fast forward to this past January when I did an overhaul on how I shop and started REALLY saving money.  The big "secret" to using coupons is that you have to change the way that you shop.  You can't just decide to save money and **BOOM** money saved.  If you really want to save money and spend less, you need to approach it from a logical perspective.  For example, before coupons I would shop sales, but I didn't buy it if I didn't need it within the next week or two.  I was always down to the last paper towel or roll of toilet paper before I got more and my cupboards often looked as bare as the day I moved in to my house.

Once I started using coupons, I actually had to clean out all my cupboard and closets to make room for the things I was beginning to stockpile.  I'm not so extreme that I'm building shelving in my garage or stacking cereal in my closet, but my cupboards are definitely not empty anymore.  I never run out of toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, soap or toilet paper and I have 6 months of dishwasher detergent under my sink.  Am I extreme?  Maybe.  Is my stockpile taking over my house?  No.  Am I saving money?  Every time I go to the store.

So, to answer the question - I believe that if you are going to "buy as you go" it's probably cheaper to just stick with generic unless you happen to see a coupon the week you run out of something.  If however, you are willing to take a little bit of extra time to organize and plan ahead, coupons will almost always save you more than the generics.  (Insert disclaimer here - this is, of course, strictly my opinion, not proven fact)

Is there something you have been wondering?  A question you haven't seen asked or answered yet?  Leave a comment and we'll do our best to answer each one.

Transformation Tuesday - Final Weigh In

Drumroll please...........

The contest is over and I'm hoping for the best.  The last couple weeks have been rough for me and I haven't seen what everyone else was doing, so I'm anxious for the results.  I think we did well, but I have no idea if "the competition" caught up or not.  I'm taking the week off from thinking about it and then I think I am going to start an exercise challenge next week.  I haven't figured out the details yet, but I think I need to add something to my routine to jump start again.  My official total for the contest was 20 pounds.  I'm happy with that, but need to keep going to get to my "happy place."  Thanks for following along and for the words of encouragement.

Look for a transformation of this weekly post next week.  I'll be starting a new "transformation" series with a new twist.  Until then - cross your fingers and wish me luck while I wait for the contest results. :o)

Hy-Vee Ad 09-20-11

Thanks, Kansas City Mamas, for putting this list together for us.

What's in your cart for this week?  I, Sister C, am not buying too much.  I'm going to be heading to their organic section and stocking up on oatmeal, castile soap, almonds, etc.  It's cool outside, which means I can start using my oven again :D  Super excited about that lol  I'm also very interested in buying less packaged food and making more of my own.  This will be quite the journey, but I'm looking forward to doing lots of cooking from scratch.

Also refer to THIS list of tips on shopping at Hy-Vee.

Shopping Tips and Tricks - Hy-Vee

Do you have any tips for shopping at Hy-Vee?  Let us know so we can update this list please!
  • First of all, make sure to print off Hy-Vee's coupon policy and always have it with you when you go shopping.  You can refer to it if a certain coupon isn't working so you and the cashier/manager can figure it out together.  They will accept one store coupon, whether it's Hy-Vee or a competitor, and one manufacturer coupon per item.
  • Hy-Vee will also ad match any store in town, just bring the flyer with you.  This is very easy and both Sister K and Sister C have both done it.  This is one reason why I love Hy-Vee, I can pretty much get all of my grocery shopping done at one place.
    • Hy-Vee will ad match Cub brand meats for Hy-Vee brand meats.  For example, if Cub has the Cub brand of boneless and skinless chicken breasts on sale, Hy-Vee will match their price for the Hy-Vee brand of boneless and skinless chicken breasts.
  • Hy-Vee accepts competitor coupons, usually only the ones from the inserts on Sunday or in the competitor store's ad.  Downtown Hy-Vee has accepted printed competitor coupons like Target, but Hilltop has not for me.  If you aren't sure, ask customer service before you go shopping to save you the time.
  • Hy-Vee has a Kids Club - sign up your kiddos!  It's free and they have several little parties for kids throughout the year.  They also receive treats for their birthdays.
    • Speaking of kids - When your kids go shopping with you, take them to the meat department to get a free cheese stick and to the bakery for a free cookie!  When you are done shopping, there is a treasure chest full of little trinkets for them to pick out a toy if they were good in the store.  At the Hilltop store the chest is located by the Express Lanes, Downtown's store has it in front of the floral department.  Kids can also get a balloon with a sucker tied to it.  Needless to say, my kids know Hy-Vee well and ask to go there all the time!
  • For those of you with texting plans on your phone plans, make sure to sign up for Hy-Vee NOWWOW.  They text you the basics of the ads if you chose to have them do that.  But the best part of the program - you get sent texts for FREE or very cheap items.
  • On Facebook, make sure to LIKE Hy-Vee Hilltop in Mankato.  Every Friday they post a deal that only their Facebook likers can get.
  • Bring in your own bags to save 5c for each bag you reuse.  These can be the cloth bags or plastic bags not just from Hy-Vee, but any store in town.
FYI - Prices vary from store to store on non-advertised items.  So for those of you in Mankato, we'll try to post which store we went to when we post our shopping items.  Do you have another tip for shopping at Hy-Vee - let us know :D

FREE Candy or Drink at CVS!

Go HERE to like CVS on Facebook to get a coupon for FREE candy or drink!  Sister C loves CVS.

If you don't have an Extra Care card for CVS yet, go HERE to sign up for one.  It's free and it's the only way to get their sale prices.  I get TONS of coupons to use also - several of them very good ones :D  You'll get your card in about two weeks.  You can also sign up in the store and get your card immediately.

Menu Plan Monday - Lunchbox Edition

Since I started extreme couponing, I've decided that I just can't pay school lunch prices anymore.  We've decided to limit our kids to one hot lunch per week.  That means we need to pack at least 12 cold lunches each week - and reminds me why I've always let them eat hot lunch.  However, this time I am determined not to let packing cold lunches stress me out.

I've devised a new "lunch prep plan" which involves a little bit of prep on my part and a lot more involvement by the kids.  If you'd like to learn more about that, you can read about it here.

(P.S.  The cute lunch totes pictured are on clearance at Wal-Mart right now for $3.00 each.  I thought they were really cute and perfect for my girls, who are 10 & 13.)

Here are our lunch choices this week:

From the pantry: (pre-packed into single serving containers)
Bugles
Animal Crackers
Breakfast on the Go
Gushers Fruit Snacks
Chex Mix
Pretzels with Cheese (the dipping kind)
Pop Tarts

From the 'frig:
Cucumbers
Carrots
Yogurt
Grapes
Raspberries
Apple Juice Box (100% juice)
Pre-made ham sanwiches
Danimals Smoothies

From the freezer:
Uncrustables

Now it's your turn - I'd love to hear what's going to be in your child's lunchbox this week.  Thanks in advance for sharing!

Menu Plan Monday

We're testing out  2 new recipes this week (on Monday and Thursday) and also having a new favorite (on Tuesday).  Then we're enjoying Friday night supper with friends after soccer.  I'm also planning to buy a squash this week, so if you have a good squash recipe or suggestion, send it my way and you could see it on my menu next week.  Now that it's getting cooler and I am getting busier with work and sports schedules, I'm going to try to use my crock pot more.  If you have a family recipe you'd be willing to share, please leave it in the comments below.  Thanks!

Sunday:  Leftovers after soccer

Monday:  Portabella Penne Pasta Casserole with a Veggie

Tuesday:  Crock Pot Lasagna with Salad

Wednesday:  Egg Bake with Fruit and Sausages

Thursday:  Potluck Tater Casserole in the Crock Pot

Friday:  Chili with friends after soccer.  We are bringing cornbread.

The Return of Money Makeover Monday

It's back - Money Makeover Monday.

Scott and I started a class in North Mankato at a local church last week Thursday.  We decided to invest $100 and sit through "Financial Peace University," by Dave Ramsey.  We've already read the books and started his program as you know from previous editions of this feature, but we've kid of stalled out a bit.  We decided the class / workbook fee was worth it to have 13 weeks of peer support and encouragement.  We will have weekly "homework" to do each week.  I can't wait.

The first week was just an introduction, and our first assignment is to create a "Quickie Budget."  We won't get our workbook until next week, but I'll update you each week on what we have re-learned.  If any local friends want to join the class, I'd love to have you join us.  Send me an e-mail and I'll share details with you.

My question for all of you this week is - Who has a written budget?  Who has a mental budget?  Who doesn't have a planned budget?  I'm just wondering how common a planned written budget is.  Thanks for sharing!

Hasbro Coupons and ShopKo Scenario

Hasbro Travel Guess WhoHasbro Travel Connect 4Hasbro Travel TroubleHasbro Travel Hungry Hippos

Do you remember the Hasbro coupons we mentioned a while ago?  You can still print them HERE.  I was in ShopKo this afternoon and noticed that they have all their games on sale - Buy One, Get One 50% off.  The regular price for travel size games at my store was $6.99.  If you buy two and use two of the $4.00/1 coupons from Hasbro, that's 2 games for only about $2.50.  They would make great school exchange gifts or stocking stuffers.  I didn't get to Target the other week like I planned, so I'm going to try to get back to ShopKo this week and pick up Connect 4 and Guess Who.  You can also work this deal on full size games, but I am sure those will go much lower when we get closer to Christmas.

Walgreen's Register Rewards 9/18/11

Cub Match-up for 9/18/11 - 9/24/11

Do you have a Cub Foods?  One of the nice things about Cub for those of us who love coupons is that they allow stacking of store and manufacturer coupons.  They also accept expired coupons for up to 90 days after the printed date on the coupon.  This week's ad match-up is from Definitely Deals, another Minnesota based blog.  It looks like my favorite cracker - Cheez its - is on sale this week.  Yeah!
Leave a comment and let us know which deal you plan to take advantage of this week. Then, check back later in the week to see what others are finding at their stores. Let's stretch those dollars and stock our pantry for less!

CVS Match-up for 9/18/2011 - 9/24/2011

CVS is one of my favorite stores for personal care and paper product deals.  If you are new to CVS shopping, make sure you sign up for the Extra Care Card so you can take advantage of the Extra Care Bucks offers each week.  Once you get started, this is one of the easiest ways I have found to get things for free.  This week's ad match up comes to us via Pocket Your Dollars.  It looks like there are a few good deals, but not a lot that I need.

Please leave a comment and let us know if you find anything great this week or if you get any good coupons from the magic coupon machine.  Also, check back during the week to see what unexpected deals others are finding and to see money saving scenarios you may be able to use.

Trick or Treat

Child Scarecrow Hat
Did you know Sister K works with costumes all year long?  While your kids are just starting to think about what they want to be this year, my kids have been trying things on since last October.  Check out the great deals on sale now at www.HalloweenCostumes.com.  If you look carefully, you may see one of my cherubs looking a little "witchy," one who is "out of this world," and another who is looking quite "sassy."  Even hubby gets called upon sometimes to help out.  For those of you who are local, we offer free shipping within 30 miles (I think) of Mankato.  What will you be for Halloween this year?

Thrifty Thursday

Last week I highlighted a local thrift store, New 2 You in North Mankato.  This week I thought I'd share with you another common way to stretch you dollar that anyone, in any town, can take advantage of - Garage and Yard Sales.

Sister K's mom came down for part of the day last Saturday.  She arrived around 9 am and we spent a leisurely morning scouting out garage sales.  I'm not sure how many we stopped at because we didn't really have a plan and we weren't looking for anything special.  Only 1 of the kids opted to join us and it was definitely worth his while.  I took $20 and put in in my pocket and decided to see how far I could stretch it.  Here's what we found in about 2 1/2 hours:

The first photo on the left is of clothes I picked up for Jordan:  1 pair of Old Navy "church pants," 1 Old Navy gray zip front hoodie, 1 pair of blue athletic pants, 2 pair of mesh shorts.  All together, I spent $6.50.
The next photo, in the middle, was also for Jordan.   I gave him $2.00 to spend when we started and told him when it was gone, it was gone and that was all he was getting.  He bought 2 books for $0.50 at the first garage sale.  I bought the other 4 and the lunch bag for $1.50.

The photo on the left in this row is what I found for myself.  Summer is almost over, but I figured the tanks would be nice for the hot days we have left and for layering this fall.  The capris just looked comfortable.  :o).  I've been trying to pick up some cheap items while I transition to new sizes.  I also picked up a new hard cover Vince Flynn book for Scott and a cheap novel for myself.  All together I spent $5.00.
The photo on the right in this row is my favorite.  I like purses and "bags" a lot, but I'm just too cheap to pay for new ones.  Even $20 is too much for this penny pincher.  Today was my lucky day.  I found these two purses for just $5.00.  I can't wait to use them!

All together, I spent $18.00 and got what I think are great deals.  However, the absolute best deal we got was Jordan's.  We hit one garage sale as it was closing up and offering everything for 1/2 price.  He's been wanting golf clubs and saw 2 sets in the driveway.  We talked to the woman at the sale and asked how much the clubs were.  I can't remember what she said each set was, but I remember she said each club was $0.50. I looked at Jordan and asked him how much of his money he was willing to spend.  He looked at his dollar and his 2 quarters and thought about it for a moment.  He looked at the clubs again and said he would spend his quarters.  As it turned out, this wonderful woman ended up talking to him about golf for a few minutes and then let him chose from one of two golf bags.  She then proceeded to fill his golf bag because she told him he needed "one of every number" of clubs.  When they were done, he had a full set of golf clubs and a bag and she would only take his quarters.  Her generosity made my 7 year old's day.
Overall, it was a very thrifty and enjoyable way to spend a Saturday.  Do you garage sale?  What's the best deal you've found?  We'd love to hear your story......
